Role Summary
The Assistant Cubmaster for Hiking plans and leads pack hikes — getting Scouts outdoors, exploring local trails, and building an appreciation for nature and physical fitness.

Core Responsibilities
- Plan and lead pack hikes (typically spring and fall)
- Select trails appropriate for the age range (Lions through Arrow of Light, ages 5–11)
- Scout the trail in advance: assess difficulty, hazards, distance, restroom availability
- Communicate hike details to families: location, difficulty, what to bring, meeting point
- Ensure safety compliance: two-deep leadership, first aid kit, health forms, buddy system
- Plan for water, snacks, sunscreen, and weather-appropriate gear
- Tie hikes to advancement when possible (hiking-related adventures and belt loops)
- Identify new hiking locations and build a rotation of favorite trails
