Membership Chair

Role Summary

The Membership Chair ensures the pack grows and retains its membership. This means running recruitment events, welcoming new families, following up with families who have dropped out, and working with the Cubmaster and committee on a year-round membership plan. The Membership Chair also oversees the pack’s public relations, social media, and apparel functions (formerly handled by the standalone Marketing / Social Media Chair).


Requirements

  • Age: 21 years or older
  • Registration: Registered adult leader of BSA; current with YPT
  • Selection: Selected by the Committee Chair
  • Required Training:
    • Youth Protection Training (YPT) — renew every 2 years
    • Pack Committee Challenge (online at my.Scouting.org)
  • Access: No bank account access

Core Responsibilities

Recruitment:

  • Along with the Cubmaster and committee, develop and carry out a plan for year-round membership growth
  • Conduct annual census of youth in the charter organization for systematic recruitment
  • Work with committee members to promote recruitment plans
  • Lead annual recruitment events (school-night sign-ups in September)
  • Coordinate with the Public Relations Coordinator for social media and flier promotion of recruitment events
  • Follow up on Cub Scout dropouts to help return them to full, active membership
  • Along with the Cubmaster, follow up with former pack members now in a troop and recruit them as potential den chiefs

New Family Welcome:

  • Serve as welcoming ambassador for the pack
  • Prepare and present to new family orientation meeting: overview of Cub Scouts, introduction to the pack, how to use the website
  • Ensure new families are connected to their den leader promptly

Charter Renewal Support:

  • Plan, coordinate, and assist with the annual charter renewal process
  • Arrange for the annual membership inventory and uniform inspection
  • Help the Cubmaster and Charter Org Rep plan the charter presentation

Public Relations & Marketing (via coordinators):

  • Oversee the pack’s public image, social media, and community visibility
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with recruitment activities
