Role Summary

The Bugler plays bugle or trumpet calls for troop ceremonies, meetings, and campouts. This Scout adds a traditional element to troop events by sounding calls such as reveille, assembly, mess call, retreat, and taps. The Bugler helps set the tone for troop activities and maintains an honored Scouting tradition.


Requirements

  • Selection: Appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with Scoutmaster approval
  • Skill: Must be able to play a bugle or trumpet (or be willing to learn)
  • Training: Should complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)

Core Responsibilities

  • Sound bugle calls as directed at troop meetings, campouts, and ceremonies
  • Learn the standard bugle calls used in Scouting (reveille, assembly, mess call, retreat, taps, etc.)
  • Be prepared to play at courts of honor, flag ceremonies, and special events
  • Practice regularly to maintain and improve musical skills
  • Teach interested Scouts about bugle calls and their meanings
  • Help set the schedule at campouts through appropriate calls
