Patrol Leader
Role Summary
The Patrol Leader (PL) is the elected leader of a patrol, typically consisting of six to eight Scouts. The PL is responsible for the welfare and activity of the patrol, represents the patrol on the Patrol Leaders’ Council, and serves as the primary link between the patrol and troop leadership. This is one of the most important leadership positions in Scouting.
Requirements
- Selection: Elected by the members of the patrol
- Term: Typically six months; may be re-elected
- Training: Should complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities
- Represent the patrol at each Patrol Leaders’ Council meeting
- Keep patrol members informed of decisions and upcoming activities
- Prepare the patrol to participate in all troop activities
- Develop patrol spirit and unity
- Work with other patrol leaders to support troop-wide events
- Help Scouts in the patrol to advance in rank
- Appoint an Assistant Patrol Leader and delegate responsibilities
- Set a positive example in Scout Spirit and personal conduct
