Pinewood Derby Coordinator

The Pinewood Derby Coordinator plans and executes the pack’s annual Pinewood Derby — one of the most popular and well-attended events of the Cub Scout year. This includes venue logistics, race track setup, registration, race management, and awards.

  • Registration: Registered adult leader of BSA; current with YPT
  • Inherits training requirements from the Program Chair role
  • Reserve the gymnasium or event space for Pinewood Derby (typically January–February)
  • Purchase and distribute Pinewood Derby car kits to all registered Scouts
  • Distribute official rules to all families; answer questions about car specs
  • Set up the Pinewood Derby track and race management software on race day
  • Conduct car inspection and weigh-in before racing
  • Run the race using GrandPrix race management software
  • Coordinate trophies and style awards with the Advancement Chair
  • Manage cleanup and track storage after the event
  • Coordinate with the Treasurer on kit and trophy purchases
